About us
From the Netherlands, Collective Rebirth actively builds bridges with countries historically connected through Dutch colonial history, particularly Ghana and Suriname. These international connections are embedded in all programmes through cultural exchange, co-creation, shared knowledge and long-term partnerships.
In a society facing increasing fragmentation, loss of belonging and growing social isolation across age groups, Collective Rebirth offers culture-based and training-oriented programmes that foster connection, empowerment and sustainable participation.

Spoken Word Event & Fashion Show for Young People
Participants experienced the power of their own voice and discovered new ways to express their creativity, both through spoken word and by participating in the fashion show. This event boosted self-confidence and created a deep sense of community among the young participants. Providing safe spaces for youth expression is a fundamental pillar of our foundation’s mission, and this event beautifully demonstrated how poetry and fashion together can empower young talent.

Back to School Party: A Huge Success
This event was primarily focused on conviviality—a final festive day before school resumed. The combination of food and drinks, music, dancing, and games created a warm, inclusive atmosphere where families could enjoy each other’s company.
The success of this second edition was so overwhelming that we will definitely repeat this event. The Back to School Party is a perfect example of how our foundation can facilitate and celebrate community connection, with a strong emphasis on conviviality and togetherness.

Exhibition: The Life of the Lappenpangi up to the 2.0 Edition
The exhibition served as a bridge between generations, with older community members sharing their knowledge and memories of the lappenpangi with younger visitors. It was not just a display of objects, but a vibrant story of resilience, identity, and cultural continuity. Visitors gained insight into how norms and values are passed down and how these communities have maintained their unique identity despite historical challenges, all reflected in the evolution of the Lappenpangi.

The various activities we organized in 2025 formed a cohesive program. This program focused on cultural preservation, community strengthening, and the transmission of knowledge between generations. Each initiative contributed uniquely to our mission of keeping cultural heritage alive and connecting new generations with their roots.

Major Events
From workshops to international trips: each event had a unique impact.

Community Involvement
Full commitment to cultural preservation and community development.

Continents Connected
Bridges built between Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean diaspora.
From practical job application training to in-depth cultural exploration in Ghana, and from creative expression through spoken word to preserving craft traditions: our activities reflect the multifaceted nature of cultural work. We have supported young people in their professional development while simultaneously strengthening their cultural identity.
The combination of local workshops and international exchanges has enriched our community with new perspectives and deepened connections. By making heritage tangible—through embroidery, cooking, and exhibitions—we have made culture accessible to all generations. This holistic approach ensures that cultural heritage is not only preserved but also actively experienced and passed on.

We look back with pride on a successful year, rich in meaningful activities and valuable connections. The positive response to our initiatives motivates us to continue and expand our program. We will continue and further develop various activities, such as the Maroon embroidery workshop, in the coming year.

Workshops Expand
Successful workshops, such as embroidery and fashion, will be continued and possibly supplemented with new craft disciplines.

Strengthening International Connections
Further developing ties with Ghana and other diaspora communities worldwide.

Reaching young people
More programs specifically aimed at young people between the ages of 16 and 30 to ensure cultural transmission and develop the individual.
Building an Institute for Our Community
We are actively building an institute—a platform where we can be ourselves and develop in complete safety.
A place where we can share knowledge, pass on traditions, and where our young people receive the support they need to stand firm.
This institute will serve as a foundation upon which our community can grow and flourish. It is a space where identity is celebrated, where talents are developed, and where generations come together to learn from each other. By providing our young people with this solid foundation, we not only strengthen our own community but also strengthen the broader society.
This is our vision for the future: a lasting home for cultural transmission, personal development, and community strengthening.
Project Development in Full Swing
We are currently busy developing and receiving applications for two important projects:
Mask Off – A 6-part event series in which we engage in discussions with young people and professionals on the relevant topic. A platform for open dialogue and the exchange of perspectives.
Ik Ben Het (Na Mi) – An intensive 12-week youth training program focused on personal development and discovering authentic identity. The program consists of various modules:
- Budgeting – financial skills and money management
- Breathwork – breathing techniques for well-being and focus
- Identity sessions – self-discovery and authenticity
- Social skills – offline conversations and human connection
- AI/IT – digital skills for the future
- Creative expressions – art, fashion, and music as forms of expression
This program creates a hub where young people and adults can come together. The emphasis on offline conversations is essential for developing real social skills and human connection in an increasingly digital world.
The Echoes of Our Ancestors – A cultural heritage project that explores and celebrates the connections between Ghana, Suriname, and the Netherlands, passing on ancestral stories and traditions to new generations. The story of the fabrics and, told by locals, the colonial story between Ghana, Suriname, and the Netherlands, based on knowledge and strength.
These projects bring us step by step closer to our ultimate goal: our own building/institute for heritage exchange and self-development. A place where young people and community members can grow, learn, and strengthen their cultural roots.
We’re excited! Every step, no matter how small, brings us closer to realizing this dream.
Our experience in 2025 has taught us that there is a great need for places where culture is celebrated, knowledge is shared, and community is built. We remain committed to creating these spaces and facilitating meaningful encounters across generations, disciplines, and continents. With gratitude for all participants, partners, and supporters, we look forward to a new year full of opportunities to honor and share our cultural heritage.
